Privacy Notice
Gaismas Inc. ("Gaismas", "we", "us", or "our"), based in Alberta, Canada, operates gaismas.dev as an informational website describing our studio and services. This notice covers gaismas.dev, voluntary email correspondence, and meetings booked with Gaismas through Microsoft Bookings or Outlook. We are committed to protecting personal information in our custody or control in accordance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where applicable, Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
How this website operates and information we handle
We design our website to minimize the collection of personal information:
Website Browsing: You can browse gaismas.dev without creating an account or submitting any form. Gaismas does not maintain a visitor database, does not store visitor activity logs, and does not use analytics, advertising, or profiling tools on this website.
Language Preference (Browser Storage): If you select a display language, that preference is saved locally in your web browser so the website remembers your choice on future visits. This preference remains in your browser, is not sent to Gaismas for tracking, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.
Website Delivery and External Resources: Our website is hosted on Microsoft Azure Static Web Apps. When your browser requests a page, standard technical information (such as your IP address, browser type, and requested page URL) is processed by infrastructure providers to deliver the content and maintain service security. Where pages load typefaces from Google Fonts, your browser connects directly to Google servers to download those font files, which necessarily involves sending technical request data to Google. This routine technical delivery does not create a visitor database or behavioral profile for Gaismas.
Voluntary Email Correspondence: If you contact us by email, we receive your email address, name, and any information you choose to include. We use this information only to read, respond to, and manage our correspondence with you. Company email is hosted using Microsoft 365 Business Basic.
Meeting Bookings: When you book a meeting with Gaismas, we receive your name, email address, appointment details, and any additional information you choose to provide. We use this information to arrange and manage the meeting, communicate with you about the appointment, and send booking confirmations, updates, and reminders where enabled. Booking and associated calendar information is stored and processed through Microsoft Bookings, Outlook, and Exchange within Microsoft 365.
Client Work: Where we perform software development or consulting services for clients, any information handled in the course of that work is governed by the applicable project agreement and applicable privacy laws.
Use, disclosure, and service providers
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We disclose personal information only where authorized or required by law, or to trusted service providers (such as Microsoft for web hosting, business email, meeting scheduling, and calendar services) strictly as necessary to deliver and secure those services. Service providers are bound by their service terms, and Gaismas remains responsible for the personal information under our control.
Because we rely on cloud infrastructure and global service networks (Microsoft Azure Static Web Apps, Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Microsoft Bookings, Outlook, Exchange, and Google Fonts), technical request data, email communications, and booking and associated calendar information may be processed, routed, stored, or supported outside Alberta and outside Canada (including in the United States and other jurisdictions where Microsoft and Google operate infrastructure or support systems). Azure and Google handle technical request data for website delivery, while Microsoft 365 holds business records such as email and booking information. While stored data may reside in designated regions, global content delivery and provider support operations are not confined to a single country, and Gaismas cannot determine the exact processing country for every request. In those jurisdictions, information may be subject to local laws and lawful access by courts, law enforcement, or regulatory authorities. You may contact our Privacy Officer to obtain written information about our policies and practices regarding service providers outside Canada and to ask questions about how those providers handle personal information.
Retention and safeguards
Because Gaismas does not collect or store visitor logs for gaismas.dev, we do not retain browsing records. We retain email correspondence, booking and associated calendar records, and other business records only as long as reasonably necessary to address your inquiry, arrange and manage meetings, manage our business relationship, or meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
We protect the accounts and records under our control using administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including access controls on our business email environment. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Your rights: access, correction, and consent
You have the right to request access to and correction of your personal information in the custody or control of Gaismas, subject to limited exceptions set out in applicable law:
Submitting a Request: Requests must be submitted in writing to our Privacy Officer with sufficient detail to allow us to locate the relevant records. To protect your privacy, we may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before processing a request.
Response Timelines: We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law—within 45 calendar days after receiving your request under Alberta’s PIPA or within 30 calendar days after receiving your request where federal PIPEDA applies—unless an extension is permitted by statute, in which case we will notify you in writing.
Fees: We do not charge a fee to request a correction of personal information. For access requests, we generally respond without charge; if a reasonable fee is permitted by law, we will provide a written estimate in advance.
Withdrawing Consent: Where our handling of your personal information is based on your consent, you may withdraw or vary your consent at any time on reasonable notice, subject to restrictions permitted by applicable law. We will inform you of the likely consequences of withdrawing consent.
Questions, complaints, and updates
We welcome the opportunity to resolve any privacy concern directly. You also have the right to contact or file a complaint with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (OIPC) or, where applicable, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC).
When we update this notice, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
